Not sure if you are entitled to VAT exemption?

HMRC say ‘VAT reliefs for disabled people aren’t means-tested. They’re not dependent on the benefits a disabled person may or may not get and a person doesn’t have to be registered disabled in order to qualify.’ Source https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-7017-vat-reliefs-for-disabled-people/vat-notice-7017-vat-reliefs-for-disabled-and-older-people.

In other words, just because you are not registered disabled does not mean that you do not qualify for VAT exemption. The easiest way to explain the legislation is. If you have a permanent limited mobility issue and an adaptation to your home, which would be for your personal use and will assist in making personal movement easier, then you can claim VAT exemption.

Are disabled people automatically exempted from VAT?

No. There is no blanket exemption from VAT for disabled persons.
